Calling all Children’s Choirs!

Join the choir for the world-premier of 3-time Dove award-winning composer Christy Semsen’s latest work, “Joy Ride: Cruising through Philippians”

Lavon Drive Baptist Church is THRILLED to be hosting the premier event for this exciting new children’s music collection, based on Scripture from the book of Philippians. This one-day event will be a life-changing experience for children and directors alike, as choirs from North Texas join forces to produce the world premier concert of this exciting collection and also record the demo which will be used to share this amazing collection with the world!

Highlights of the Event

Important Details
  • Date: Saturday, May 7, 2022
  • Location: Lavon Drive Baptist Church (1520 Lavon Dr, Garland, TX 75040)
  • Time: 9 AM – 8:30 PM, with breaks for lunch, dinner, snacks, etc. Concert begins at 7:00 PM
  • Participation limit: we are limited to 200 children, so register soon to lock in your choir’s spot!
  • Ages:  choir is open to kids age 5 through 6th grade
  • Cost: $30/participant (including adult sponsors), which includes:
    • Sheet music, demo tracks, and choreography video guides
    • Catered lunch and snacks (dinner on your own, though we will consider providing on campus for an additional fee if there is sufficient interest by directors)
    • Festival t-shirt for all participants (exclusive leader shirt provided for adult sponsors)
    • Advance access to the final recording of the event
    • Priceless memories and an experience you and your kids won’t forget!
    • Concert is free to attend for the public/family/friends
  • Payment:
    • 10% deposit of total estimated participation required to secure your spot
    • 25% additional deposit due March 1, 2022
    • Balance due upon arrival May 7
Getting Prepared
  • The first 3 songs songs (including music, practice tracks, and choreography demonstrations) will be available for rehearsing by January 7, with the remaining 7 songs ready by January 28 AT THE LATEST, hopefully earlier!
  • Directors, prepare your choirs, with music and choreography memorized and performance-ready by the date of the event on May 7.  On the day of, Christy will be polishing and helping add that spark that will really make the performance shine, so everyone needs to come fully memorized and prepared!
  • Solos for the performance will be auditioned the day of the event, with judging panels made up of select directors, along with Daniel Semsen. Directors need to hold their own auditions ahead of the event to narrow down the candidates, providing just one or two entries per song from each representative choir.  Names/songs will be submitted at registration, auditions will take place during the first session, and results will be announced at the lunch break.  Winners will practice with the full choir during the afternoon session and sing on the performance that night.

Her latest project for Christmas, Emmanuel, is an exciting and poignant take on the state of our world now! With over 25 published musicals, numerous collections and 3 Dove Awards, she focuses on utilizing the most current musical styles and engaging both young and older children. She is always trying to learn and grow to fit the needs of the churches and schools that perform her shows!
