Adult Choir
Our adult choir has numerous opportunities to minister as called servants of our Lord. While seasonal presentations are an important aspect of what we do, Sunday morning worship leadership is our primary focus. Choir members are expected to exemplify how a true worshipper speaks, acts, and thinks both in and out of the choir loft. After all, Jesus explained that what comes out of our mouths is simply an overflow of what is already in our hearts (Matthew 12:34).

New members wishing to join the adult choir must be at least 18 years of age. There is no audition required. Simply come a few minutes early to one of our rehearsals, which take place on Sunday afternoons at 4:30 p.m. The rehearsals are conducted in the choir room, which is located downstairs below the auditorium choir loft. Regular attendance at rehearsals is absolutely crucial. Members are expected to let the director know in advance of non-emergency absences.

You’ll find our choir to be a close family of faith that prays together, works together, laughs together, and cries together. If you would like more information or have questions which are not answered here, please contact the music office at extension 214.

Orchestra
Haven’t played your horn since high school? High school was thirty years ago? That’s o.k.! You can usually play at the level where you left off with just about 6 weeks of diligent practice. Our orchestra is newly-formed and going strong. All band and orchestra instrumentalists are welcome, provided you have had at least 2 complete, consecutive years of experience on your instrument.

No audition is required. It would be helpful, however, to call the music office ahead of the first rehearsal you plan to attend, so we will be sure to have a chair, stand, and music waiting for you. The orchestra rehearses on Wednesday evenings at 7:15 in the G.C.A. band room. This building is to the immediate north of the auditorium, just across the parking lot. More questions? Contact the music office at extension 214.

Handbell Choir
Lavon Drive Baptist Church’s handbell choir, Bellissimo, desires to lead our church into worship of our Lord. Using a variety of techniques and styles, Bellissimo typically performs on a bimonthly schedule. Positions are always available; if you would like to be a valuable part of a unique ministry, please come to rehearsal on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 PM. Contact Dave James (davejames@aol.com) for more information.

Technical Ministries
Technicians are always needed in the following areas:

Our sound technicians provide front-of –house mixing as well as recording of our services and special events. The ideal sound technician is someone with a great ear for music as well as a good understanding of electronics and electricity. Since this is a ministry that is usually only noticed when something goes wrong, our sound techs must strive for flawlessness and have a “thick skin” as well.

Computer support is needed in two areas. First, announcement and song lyric projection are accomplished through a unique program designed specifically for churches. Anyone who is skilled in the use of PowerPoint can be trained on this software. Secondly, video compilation and editing is a growing need. If you are skilled in the use of non-linear editing software, we want to involve you in preparing video for use in our services and special events.

Youth Choir
The Youth Choir has been an integral part of the music and worship program in the evening service. The teens practice on Wednesday nights, and are the main choir for the Sunday night services.

Children’s Choir
Our children’s choirs are truly the foundation of the music and worship ministry. We provide children’s choirs at Lavon Drive with the following purposes in mind:

• To teach children to become active in worship participation

• To teach children to become confident and skilled young musicians

• To teach children the truths of God’s Word through singing, as well as musical games and activities

Children age 4 through 6th grade may participate in one of several graded choirs. Our children’s choirs meet on Sunday evenings at 6:00 p.m. between Labor Day and Memorial Day. They have the opportunity to present anthems during morning and evening services and to be involved in seasonal musicals. Not all children will grow up to be professional musicians, but they all need the basic, quality training that is offered through our choirs in order to become well-rounded

Solos and Ensembles
Are you at home with a mic in your hand? Do you enjoy performing in a small group as much or more than in a large ensemble? There are numerous opportunities to sing and play outside of the choirs and orchestra. If you would like to be involved as a soloist or in a small ensemble, whether instrumental or vocal, please contact Heather Sorenson, Music Associate, at extension 214 or email her at heathersorenson@lavondrive.org. Before contacting our office, however, please keep the following requirements in mind for ensemble members and soloists:

1. You must be a member in good standing of Lavon Drive Baptist Church

2. You must be a member in good standing of the orchestra, or the appropriate choir for your age group. The only exception to this requirement is for people who are a part of a traveling ministry or other ministry of the church that prevents them from being a part of the orchestra or choir.

3. You must audition for either the music pastor or music associate.
